a fabulous idea

Hi all bloggers:

I don't have much experience with blogs. Except for a friend who is in Florida diligently looking for the elusive Ivory-billed Woodpecker and is posting his experience on a blog. But I think this is a great idea.

Last month I went to Africa with the study that I work for at UW. It's an AIDS-related study and I went to Arusha, Tanzania. We had a conference there with staff from our clinical sites in southern and eastern Africa. After the conference, I went to Zanzibar with a colleague. That was the most exotic place I've ever visited - 99% muslim - and the people were very welcoming. It was incredibly hot and humid, but we managed ok. But I was happy to get back to the cool Northwest.

Normal Font size vs. Small

I can see from my posting that Normal font size is probably a better choice than Small. One less thing to puzzle over.

What a good idea! Blogging is all new to me, but I'm game. A short update on what I've been up to. I just returned from a two day knitting retreat (sounds arduous, huh?) on Whidby Island at the wonderful Saratoga Inn. It is our third time there and they never disappoint. Our group of ten was much smaller than usual. In the past we have taken over the whole inn which is fun as we can sit around by the fire in our jammies and knit. Honestly, the retreat could just as accurately be called a wine tasting retreat. (One of the knitting buddies has a small family winery.) We always leave time for some shopping in town, and wonderful meals at the Langley restaurants. We manage to squeeze in some knitting, too.

The timing was good for me as I am still adjusting to Sarah now residing in North Carolina (she moved on the 2nd of this month). Do moms ever adjust to their children being 3,000 miles away?

I see that we can add images to these posts. Fortunately no pics were taken on my weekend....

I'll look forward to hearing about what is going on with you, family.

Hi family and welcome to the blog!

I have been thinking about this for awhile and finally got that last bit of inspiration I needed to follow through after seeing someone posting to her blog this morning in a coffee shop. My thought was that we could use this as a way to keep in touch. Instead of writing emails or, as is the case with me so often, just not communicating at all, we can now post to this blog and we can all check it when we feel like it. Please post a reply to let us know what you think about the idea and if you think you'll participate. And, of course, please share any suggestions you have about it. I have zero experience with blogs and no sense of ownership about what this becomes other than I hope it's a new way of staying connected.
